THE BRONX, NY—The hot start for the Yankees continues, as they took this one 5-3 over the Athletics, improving to 8-2 on the season. This game will be labeled as the Amed Rosario game.

The bullpen was solid for the Yankees. They walked four batters and allowed one hit in four scoreless innings of work. Also notable was David Bednar, who had a rough week last week and threw 14 pitches in his first perfect inning of 2026.

“Not the easiest night to play,” manager Aaron Boone said. “But they kept at it”

Pitching Highlight

Cam Schlittler was not his dominant self, but he was able to keep the Yankees in the game. He has not walked a batter on the young season. Despite his command and velocity being a bit off, he was still able to record seven strikeouts.

“He had some longer at-bats tonight,” Boone said of Schlittler, also noting that his command was off a bit.

Hitting Highlight

It’s obvious. Rosario won this game for the Yankees. He went 2-4 at the plate with two home runs and four RBI’s, including the eighth inning go-ahead blast.

“Yeah, the approach was simple for me there,” Rosario said postgame, “just try to find a pitch closer to me and put the ball in play.

After his second home run, an eighth-inning shot of Mark Leiter Jr., his former teammate, it was clear how much his presence means to the team. The dugout exploded after Rosario’s emphatic bat flip. “He’s become beloved in that room in short order,” Boone said.“I think they all get thrilled by his success.

Notable:

The at-bats were so much better from the bottom of the Yankees lineup in this one. They had a combined four extra base hits after not recording a single one in the first nine games in the season.

Also notable—the Yankees are the only AL East team with a record over .500. The Blue Jays and Red Sox have struggled early, giving the Yankees a huge advantage when winning, keeping the pressure on their rivals.

What’s Next:

The Yankees will play the Athletics for the second game of a three game set. New York will send out righty Will Warren, who will be opposed by former Yankee Luis Severino. The game will be at 7:05pm on Prime Video.
