ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.—The New York Yankees return to Tropicana Field today for the first time since July of 2024.
The Yankees, whose offense has been scuffling as of late, will be facing another left-handed starter. Paul Goldschmidt will be in the lineup today after not being in the lineup against the left-hander (Jeffery Springs) yesterday.
On the mound for New York will be right-hander Luis Gil. This will be his season debut after struggling in spring training and not making the MLB roster. In 2025, Gil posted a 4-1 record with a 3.31 ERA. The Yankees are hoping they unlocked some good fortune with Gil by extending his spring training by 11 games.
