SAN FRANCISCO, CA—The Yankees come back from the off day and continue where they left off, taking this one against the Giants 3-0, improving to 2-0 on the young season.
Schlittler’s Start
Cam Schlittler made his first start of 2026 and continued his dominant spring. He struck out eight batters over five and a third innings pitched. He allowed just one baserunner—a two-out double by left fielder Heliot Ramos in the second inning.
“Throwing a lot of strikes and limiting the walks is very important,” Schlittler said postgame.
Schlittler also started today on a pitch count, which he met with 68 pitches. “It’s part of it, there’s nothing you can do about it, nothing you can control”, the righty added.
Austin Wells also challenged a call on Rafael Devers to end the first inning. “Good Challenge,” Schlittler said, acknowledging he missed his location, but still fired a strike.
The Power on Offense
It was a pitchers’ duel through the first five innings, with Schlittler and Giants lefty Robbie Ray each trading zeros. That changed in the sixth inning after a leadoff double brought Aaron Judge to the plate with a chance to do damage. Judge used the ABS to get into a 3-0 count, and Ray worked it to 3-2, before grooving a fastball down the pike that Judge hit for a home run to give the Yankees a 2-0 advantage.
After the Giants elected to go to the bullpen, Giancarlo Stanton stepped up to the plate, facing the new reliever Jose Butto. Stanton took him deep to left field on a 2-1 sinker at the bottom of the zone. For Stanton, it was his first home run of 2026, leaving him just 48 home runs away from 500 career home runs.
The Yankees’ bullpen looked really strong again today. Four relievers—Fernando Cruz, Tim Hill, Camilo Doval, and David Bednar—worked scoreless innings to shut down the Giants’ offense.
Most impressive was Doval, who struck out the side against his former team. His stuff looked really good today, and his impressive performance is big for this bullpen going forward.
The Yankees’ offense had chances in the seventh and eighth innings with runners on third and less than two outs, and they could not come through.
What’s Next?
The Yankees will play tomorrow at 7:15pm EST. Will Warren will get his first start of 2026 after a really good spring for the young right-hander. Warren got his first career win against the Giants last spring and looks to bring the Yankees a sweep in the process. The Giants will be starting Tyler Mahle. The game will be televised on FOX.
More to Come.
