Yankees rookie Cam Schlittler will pause mound work due to mid-back inflammation. Despite “feeling a tweak” recently. The right-hander will stay active with a flat-ground throwing program while the medical staff monitors his recovery.
Schlittler made his MLB debut in July, coming up due to an injury to Clarke Schmidt.
Manager Aaron Boone called the injury “Minor”
“Just something we’re just trying to stay ahead of.” Boone added.
Boone added that tests came back negative. This does not seem like an earth-shattering injury for Schlittler, but something for the Yankees to monitor.
As of now, the Yankees lack starting pitching depth to start the regular season, and any more losses could be detrimental.
Schlittler later met the media to talk about the “tweak” he felt. He said he had “zero” concern about his back.
“I’ve been dealing with it for a little bit, so just want to make sure I’m on top of it and ready for Opening Day and that week in San Fran.” Schlittler said smirkingly.
It seems that the “insignificant tweak” might be exactly what it seems.
He hopes to get back on the mound “early-mid-next week”.
