TAMPA, Fla — Jazz Chisholm Jr. loves the spotlight. The Yankees’ second baseman never shies away from the chance to talk to the media.
Today was no different. The Yankees pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training on Wednesday, and so did a lot of the position players. Chisholm was among the players to report and begin some in-field drills.
Chisholm Jr. then took the time to speak to some media members in attendance. He was first asked about his personal goals for the 2026 season.
“Basically the same personal goals I have every season.” He said, “Go out there, win MVP, and go win a World Series.”
At the end of the season, Chisholm Jr. will likely hit free agency for the first time in his career. With a weak free agent class going into the 2026 offseason, Chisholm Jr. could be one of the best free agents on the market next offseason.
When asked about his seemingly impending payday, he reiterated that winning the MVP is more on his mind. “I can make as much money as I want, but I don’t have the MVP, I’m not going to be satisfied.” Said Chishom. “That’s more important than that. [The money]”
When Chisholm Jr. was healthy in 2025, he was one of the best players on the field. He was an All-Star and a Silver Slugger in 2025, but did miss about a month on the injured list. Still, he had a 31/31 season for the Bombers.
Still, Chisholm thinks the Yankees will be a good team in 2026, regardless of them ‘running it back’.
“I feel like what this team was built for last year, like we’re running it back because at the halfway point, we thought we built a team that was going to go to the World Series, and we still believe that wholeheartedly. So for me, I don’t see a problem with running it back with four MVPs on your team.”
Chisholm Jr. taking another step in the right direction will be essential to the Yankees having success in 2026, but being the MVP is a tall task with Aaron Judge in the AL, let alone on his team.
